Buffalo Church History
As individuals and as a community, we are defined by the stories we tell. We know who we are by recalling and sharing and reflecting on what we know of our past, our roots, our traditions. Try imagining Christianity without the Bible’s narratives, whether it be Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden or the Gospels’ portrayal of the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem. When we recall the messages of Jesus, it’s likely we recall his parables, stories of good Samaritans and Prodigal Sons.
Erase our stories and we cease to exist. This does not mean we must be tied down by the past. In recent years Buffalo’s congregation has demonstrated an admirable willingness to embrace the future, to leave a beloved church building, to create a new home for itself in a new neighborhood. But this courage does not mean we forget where we came from and how we got here. On this page are photos and links to written documents conveying significant moments in Buffalo’s 140-year history. While not a complete account, the images and stories will, perhaps, convey the enduring resourcefulness and spiritual energy of this small, dedicated community.
